Contextual Fit
Analysis & Design of Addition
In this Project, we are tasked to design an addition to the Notorious Smith House, designed by Architect Richard Meier in 1965. The main objective of this project is that the addition must show proof of that the existing systems and patterns throughout the house were thoroughly analyzed and then incorporated into the addition to respect the integrity of Richard Meier's original design.
Narrative

Renowned guitar artist Jhon Garcia recently purchased the Smith House, located on the Long Island shore in New York. A close friend of Santana and Lenny Kravitz, he envisions the home as a space for hosting intimate guitar practice sessions and collaborative songwriting.
To support this vision, Garcia has requested an addition to the existing structure that preserves the original architectural intent. An expanded family room and an extended outdoor deck will provide the necessary space for these creative and social gatherings.
In addition, he has requested a master suite that includes a master bedroom, master bath, and walk-in closets as needed, along with an exercise room located on a different floor from the bedroom to better meet his family’s needs.
